10 Reasons to Love Thanksgiving Babies (and Bellies)

mariapokluda humor, Pregnancy, Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all blessings, big and small.  Families who are expecting or who have a new baby are especially thankful for many things, however we want to suggest a few more reasons these families may love their Thanksgiving baby that they *may* not have thought of previously.

1.  You can name your November baby Sage without people thinking you are a total hippie.

2.  If you are very pregnant, the people you are celebrating Thanksgiving with  will not call you that day to ask, Have you had that baby yet??”.

3.  Instead of asking about baby’s arrival, the people you are with may look at you and comment about how you have dropped…or not dropped. How you are carrying high…or carrying low and generally gaze at you as if you might pop after another bite of stuffing.

4.  Pumpkin Pie.  Apple Pie. Pecan Pie.  Pregnancy or breastfeeding can mean ALL THE PIES.

5.  Winter maternity clothes are pretty cute, and unless you live in Florida it is not 90 degrees outside.

6.   Babies in cute hats. Have you seen the one where baby looks like a turkey straight out of the oven? Sounds creepy, but it is adorable.

7.   When you talk about the arrival of your “turkey”, no one knows if you mean your baby or if you are having the Thanksgiving meal catered.

8.   No one expects you to cook. And if they do you can use the “Turkey” euphemism from above to be evasive about having called Whole Foods to cook your whole meal.

9.   Hiding in a bedroom with a (Fussy? Tired? Hungry? ) newborn can be a good excuse to avoid talking to particular family members that you might wish to avoid.

10.   Having a November baby means you probably had a pretty good Valentine’s Day. (Yes mid-November is 9 months after February 14th).

No matter what reasons you find yourself loving your Thanksgiving baby or belly, Great Expectations Doulas hope you have a great holiday! Call us if you need help with your little turkey (and yes, we mean your baby – not if you need help cooking your meal).
