Get to know Mansfield Doula Leslie Geick

Hi, I’m Leslie. I am a Mansfield doula that drives all over Dallas and Fort Worth helping families have happy birth days and I’ve been doing this for 3 amazing years. I love talking about my job, but sometimes it is nice to know a few things about your doula that have nothing to do with birth.

I am fortunate to be married to my knight in shining armor (literally – ask me about it) and together we have 2 daughters, 8 and 3 years old. They are smart, sweet girls that keep us on our toes!  We recently bought a house in Mansfield with a nice backyard, walking distance to schools, and several cool parks nearby. We love spending time at playgrounds, playing in the sprinklers, riding bikes, etc. I guess you could say we love being outside.

Do you have any “afterbirth” tradition?

After attending a birth, the girls usually join me for chips and salsa, tacos, and a margarita (for me, not them!) I like to decompress, sleep, shower, and most importantly Tex-Mex. If you follow me on social media, you also know that I’m currently obsessed with my Instant Pot. So these days I might be cooking tacos from the Instant Pot rather than heading to a local restaurant. It depends on how long the birth was.

What are some of your favorites besides tacos?

I have had the same favorite book and movie for almost my entire life. The Giver  was a gift to me from my aunt when I was a child. I have read it at least once a year since and every time I read it, I take away something new. A few other things on my reading list these days are anything by Brene Brown, Andy Andrews, Jen Hatmaker. My family also loves reading kid friendly joke books.

My favorite movie of all time is a cult classic, Empire Records… because “what’s with today, today?”. I wish I could help you understand my deep protective love of this movie, but unless you have seen it…. I’m fiercely loyal to Gilmore Girls and Parenthood as well. I’m literally planning a watch party at my house for the Gilmore Girls Revival. We’re doing it right, too. Coffee, junk food, burgers, and maybe a grown up flask (Season 3, at Yale Game, anyone?)

What do you dream of doing?

It is a goal for my life to travel and see the world. I would love to visit Europe and eat all the food and drink all the wine and absorb everything I can from the experience. Plus the chocolate. I would love to see Australia and visit all the beaches of the world too. I would be deliriously happy.

Describe your doula self.
I’m fiercely loyal, a great listener and I thrive on caffeine and laughter. I believe all birth is beautiful, even when it’s messy or unpredictable. The moment that a parent meets their baby face to face for the first time is what makes everything worth it. It is a rare moment on this Earth when we are closer to heaven. It is sacred and special, and it is a joy to hold someone’s hand in the process.
